History
Denis Losier was born on June 14, 1953, and studied economics at university. In 1975, he graduated with a master’s in economics from University of Western Ontario. After starting out as an economist with the federal Department of Regional Industrial Expansion, he became president and CEO of the Société des Acadiens et Acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick. In 1998, he made the move into politics and was elected as the Liberal member of parliament for Tracadie. He held the position of Minister for various departments: Fisheries and Aquaculture (1989-1991), Commerce and Technology and Tourism, Recreation and Heritage, which would become Economic Development and Tourism (1991-1994).
In 1994, Mr. Losier became president and CEO of Assumption Life insurance and financial services, along with its real estate subsidiaries and Placement Louisbourg Inc. He held this position until his retirement in 2013. Under his presidency, Assumption Life shifted from a company focused on the Atlantic Provinces to a company doing business across Canada.
Mr. Losier has been a member of many boards of directors, including, as of his retirement from Assumption Life: Canadian National, NAV Canada, Enbridge Gas New Brunswick, the Security Intelligence Review Committee, Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association and Invest NB.
The Louisbourg Investments $1,500 non-renewable scholarship also includes one day of job shadowing at Louisbourg Investments Inc. with potential future recruitment.

3. Letters of recommendation: Two (2) letters of recommendation completed by a teacher, instructor, school administrator, employer or community member. The reference must know the candidates academic background, community contributions and involvement in volunteer or extracurricular activities. The reference must support the candidate's post-secondary studies and future goals. The letter must be dated within one year of the application deadline and must include the reference's contact information and signature.
4. Transcript: Applicants for the scholarship must include one or more transcripts of their most recent and available grades.
