Pilot Project Simplifies Drug Refills for Group Insurance Members in New Brunswick

New Brunswick is embarking on a transformative 12-month pilot project aimed at alleviating pressure on primary care providers. By empowering pharmacists in six designated pharmacies, this initiative enables them to prescribe medications for specific chronic diseases.

The project, commencing on August 1st, addresses long wait times and ensures swift access to vital medications for conditions like asthma, COPD, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. The key objectives are to expedite patient care and ease the burden on primary care providers.

Participating pharmacies include:

• Shoppers Drug Mart, 1040 Prospect St., Fredericton, 506-451-1567
• Jean Coutu Riverview, 438 Coverdale Rd., Riverview, 506-853-0825

By September 18th, four more locations will join:

Inspired by a successful Nova Scotia project in February 2023, this initiative showcases New Brunswick's commitment to innovative healthcare solutions.
